Martin Johnson certain to regain injured players before the kick-off RWC: Rugby News
England manager, Martin Johnson, is certain of the return of injured players back into his line up before they take on Argentina in their inaugural match of the Rugby World Cup on September 10. Currently, the English side is facing a huge injury crisis as
five key men are suffering from various on-field injuries. However, Johnson told journalists on August 29 that he is certain of the comeback of his players before their opening game.
It will be a big threat to their RWC preparations if the injury struck-players fail to recover from their injuries in time. England has played its last warm-up match against Ireland without their captain Lewis Moody along with three other players whereas
Mark Cueto sustained a back injury during Dublin test.
English skipper Lewis Moody and Ben Young are suffering with knee injuries since their second warm-up match against Wales. The pair was rested from their next clash against Ireland, played on August 27. Tom Wood and Nick Easter were also rested and have
been suffering from calf injuries.
The English manager told reporters about the severity of injuries and said Tom Wood and Nick Easter are not good at the moment whereas the others should be fine before the match. He added that, “We're pretty confident everyone will be fit to train in the
Argentina week. Tom Wood and Nick Easter, with their injuries in particular, and Mark Cueto should be fine by the end of the week. We'll just pick the team, as we always do, that we think is the right one to win the game.”
Johnson further said that, “This is what World Cup week will be like because there are going to be late changes, potentially, and guys may have to fill in, as they did, We've got good choices. We can choose slightly different players in positions and go
with what we think is appropriate.”
England will undertake the Rugby World Cup campaign against Argentina on September 10 in Dunedin.
