Martin Kaymer and Bernhard Langer congratulate Rory McIlroy over US Open victory
World number one Martin Kaymer and two-time major winner Bernhard Langer congratulated Rory McIlroy over his heroic triumph at the US Open, which took place at the par-71 Congressional Country Club in Maryland.
The duo, who are preparing for the BMW International Open in Munich, welcomed the young conqueror in their club of major winners.
Langer said, “We should savour this. It doesn’t come around too often. There was a unique crop of players in the eighties who came along and won Majors and it’s unique again. It’s another generation and I think they benefit from
playing each other and beating each other regularly. That’s human nature. They know they can beat them and they know they are just as good and they go out and prove it. For years, there was a drought. Now it’s the opposite.”
Meanwhile, Kaymer said that he was awestruck when he saw McIlroy breaking all previous records set in the US Open. He added that Congressional was one of the toughest venues on the circuit, but despite that McIlroy did not lose
his cool and managed to post the lowest score of all time. The German added that he felt motivated by watching McIlroy’s game, which was perfect in all aspects.
Kaymer is the only German who managed to climb onto the top of the Official World Golf Rankings in a decade, after Langer. The 26-year-old won the PGA Championship last year at Gleneagles and had his name included in all the past
major winners.
He was part of the US Open in which McIlroy managed to steal the show, but unfortunately, he could not create an impressive finish by the end of Sunday. Despite that and with all the motivation amassed from the performance delivered
by McIlroy, the German is ready to take part in the BMW International Open, which is about to hit a course in Germany.
Included in the field will be Langer, Kaymer, Lee Westwood and the US Open Champion McIlroy, who nowadays is the gem of every eye.
