Martin Kaymer decides for PGA Tour 2013
The Deutschland’s Martin Kaymer is all set to be the PGA Tour’s latest European dazzlement, besides five other internationals: Peter Hanson, Nicolas Colsaerts, Ryo Ishikawa, and David Lynn, of Sweden, Belgium, Japan, and England respectively.
The Englishman, David Lynn, was the runner-up at this year’s PGA Championship, while Kaymer had qualified for the Tour since Whistling Straits in 2010.
Ever since the Ryder Cup heroism that, on that September day at Medinah Country Club, Illinois, saved the European team the game, his confidence has had an unbeaten streak.
Manager John Elliott recalled how the 27-year-old, flushed with adrenaline of victory, jumped up and down in wild celebration.
It was his final putt on the green, six-feet it was, against the American Steve Stricker, which made the game.
'It's very, very rare that you are in a position as a golf player to make such an important putt. There will never, ever, be a more important putt in my life. Even if I have a chance in two years' time again I've done it before already.
'I'm just very thankful that I got the possibility to go through those moments and to experience all of the things that I did.
'It's very difficult to describe. You're just so much in that moment. Fortunately it worked out,' he expressed.
Exhilarating. After the Ryder Cup win, Kaymer was, however, reluctant to jump onto the PGA Tour-wagon.
Although the Tour is unabashedly golf’s greatest proving ground, many a seasoned players, including the likes of Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy, have decided in keeping their options open, fore-going full-time membership.
Kaymer, following suit, has, until recently, decided to compete in the PGA Tour after all.
However, despite the Ryder Cup victory and a 10-win career, that include a major and World Golf Championship, the 6-foot resident of Mettmann, whilst Touring the PGA will be considered a rookie.
He seems to be alright with it thus far, and his change of heart at playing on the PGA Tour has meant that 28 of the 30 top-ranking players the world over will be PGA Tour members.
The 2013 PGA Tour will be beginning with the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii on January 4, followed by the Sony Open, starting January 10, which will be the first full-field event.
Well, the going looks good for Germany’s star. With 2012’s earnings capped at $283,357, it is “Schnell! Schnell!” Martin Kaymer.
