Martin Kaymer eager to prove his form at the BMW Italian Open presented by CartaSi
Since April this year, Martin Kaymer has not recorded a single top-10 finish on the European Tour. However, he grabbed the last spot for an automatic qualification to the European Ryder Cup team that will compete against the US team at the end of this month.
Last week, he finished 21st on the leaderboard at the end of the KLM Open. He now wants to improve the results, when he tees off at this week’s BMW Italian Open presented by CartaSi.
For the last few weeks, he has been criticized for his poor form on the tour, especially when the Ryder Cup is just two weeks away.
Therefore, he himself is eager to prove his form with a strong finish at the Royal Park I Roveri this week. According to him, he started getting his form back last week. He struck the ball well and his game with the irons improved to a great extent.
However, his game on the greens was really disappointing, as he missed a number of easy putts that could have allowed him to make a better finish in the Netherlands.
Therefore, he now plans to focus on his putting technique prior to the start of the biennial event at the Medinah Country Club, on September 28, 2012.
“My ball striking is a lot better and I had more control over the ball, but the putter didn’t really behave itself,” he said. “I just hope that a few more putts will drop soon”.
“You can only be satisfied if you’ve been in contention or won, but the progress is going fine,” he continued. “There wasn’t one day when I left the golf course and thought that was the best I could get out of my round”.
“My big worry to be honest over the last three weeks or so was that I wanted to be ready to play in Medinah,” he added.
He is currently grouped with Nicolas Colsaerts and Francesco Molinari - his team-mates for the Ryder Cup - for the first two rounds in Italy.
Colsaerts and Molinari are currently enjoying a great form on the tour this season. Therefore, they will definitely try to motivate their team-mate, while playing the first 36 holes of the tournament.
