Martin Kaymer leads Germany to the top at Mission Hills World Cup of Golf: Live Leaderboard
In a stellar display of resilience, Germany has now outsmarted the Australian and Irish dominance to surge to the top of the leaderboard at the Mission Hills World Cup of Golf in the third round in the morning. Playing alongside countryman Alex Cejka, world
number four Martin Kaymer thrashed the field to pull in no fewer than eight birdies through the 12-hole stretch so far and are now tied at the top with Ireland with 15-under on the aggregate.
Starting from the first hole, the duo made their charge with alternate birdies throughout the day, soaring to the top of the Four-Ball event on the third day. They still have to a play for the remaining six holes of the round as compared to Graeme McDowell
and Rory McIlroy of Ireland who have just started off the day with four birdies through the six-hole stretch.
Overnight leaders Australian Richard Green and Brendan Jones have also tee-ed off for their third round Four-Balls and have carded two birdies so far in their five-hole stretch. Jones and Green have led the opening two rounds of the event and have done well
so far to utilise their tons of OneAsian Tour experience here in China.
Matt Kuchar and Gary Woodland, representing United States in the event have gradually been toiling their way up the leaderboard with patience and have now thrown themselves in contention in the 28-nation World Cup here in Hainan, China. They are now tied
for an outright fourth position after an impressive putting spree on the third day. They have carded six birdies against one bogey at par-five, 2nd in the eight-hole stretch so far.
Irish duo of McDowell and McIlroy took charge of the proceedings later in the second round yesterday, jolting into joint lead with their trailblazing golf. They have now emerged as the favourites in the event and are likely to grab the lead in the third
round today.
“Alternate shot is a very difficult format,” McDowell said regarding the Foursomes yesterday. “We struggled to find our rhythm a little bit on the front nine. Rory really putted well today, which kept things together. I've struggled a little bit on the greens
the last couple of days, but I was happy with the way I swung the club in general today again and Rory is playing lovely.”
McDowell is currently ranked number 14 while McIlroy is ranked number two in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
