Martin Kaymer practicing putting ahead of Dubai Desert Classic - Golf News
After missing the cut in the 2012 Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, Martin Kaymer is working hard on his putting technique ahead of the Dubai Desert Classic, starting from Thursday, February 9, 2012, at the Emirates Golf Club.
Recently, he was found struggling on the course and carded too many bogeys in the recent tournaments that he played.
While he entered the Abu Dhabi Golf Club in late January, he was among the hot favourites to win the event as he had three victories in the last four years.
However, the event saw him perform poorly, as he finished a six-over par at the end of the second round, missing the cut.
That was the time when he thought seriously of what went wrong in the event. He then said that he was not able to make successful putts and his pars were converting into bogeys.
Moreover, the birdies were difficult to find and the score was getting higher as the game progressed.
Therefore, he brought some changes in his putting technique and participated in the Qatar Masters at the Doha Golf Club last week and tied for ninth in the end.
He believes that there is plenty of room for improvement and he is far away from his target.
“Playing wise I have definitely improved but I still need to work more on my putting. I hadn't done enough in the weeks leading up to Abu Dhabi,” he said
“I really struggled in Abu Dhabi and last week [in Qatar] it was tough with the wind. It is tough to practice when it's that windy so I was practicing a little in my hotel room, because I really want to win again, and the only thing that is distracting me
is my putting,” he added.
Prior to starting his first round at the Emirates Golf Club, he is practicing putting on the greens at his hotel room.
When he was asked about the quality of artificial greens in his room, he replied humorously by saying that they were just like a carpet and there is nothing special in them.
Despite his performance in the recent tournaments, he said that he is confident to please his fans in the last event of the Desert Swing.
