Martin Kaymer saves his head from injury
Sergio Garcia, the European team’s vice-captain almost hit Martin Kaymer with his shot.
Although, Garcia, in his capacity as the vice-captain, would not be playing in the 2010 Ryder Cup but even then he grabbed a pair of clubs and smashed a shot at the 15th hole. The ball, instead of hitting the flag, flew in Kaymer’s direction but fortunately, the winner of KLM Open and also the PGA championship spotted it in time and he was able to save his head from what could have been a major injury.
Or else, owing to Sergio’s negligence one player of the European side would have been out of the four balls. It should be remembered that only last week, Peter Hanson had to withdraw because of his chest infection while Monty gave clear instructions to his team that he won’t tolerate any negligence especially regarding fitness. Already, Monty has a somewhat troublesome player in his squad namely Lee Westwood.
As for Garcia, he cracked a joke after finding out that Kaymer was Ok. He said that he was trying to get into the Ryder Cup team. Garcia fell from second spot in the FedEx standings to the 59th therefore; he couldn’t make it to the European team as a player. He was instead chosen by the captain for his backroom staff so that it would keep him motivated for the next month's Castellon Masters. Garcia is currently on a break of two months. Moreover, he has played for each side from 1999 to 2008. His last achievement was when he reached the semi-finals of the Accenture Match Play in February.
This is it for the breaking news regarding Martin Kaymer escaping a near fatal injury just one day before the four balls. It seems like Sergio Garcia is all set to get some good warning from the captain of the team whose primary concern before the four balls appears to be his players’ fitness.
