Martin Kaymer seals the day with a 70: Live leaderboard of the BMW Internation Open
European Tour’s BMW International Open is underway at the par-72 Golfclub München Eichenried in Munich, Germany. Here is a quick look at the leaderboard.
Former world number one, Martin Kaymer failed to perform as he intended before coming to his home ground. The 26-year-old German teed-off from the back and bogeyed the opening two holes, which broke his momentum. In urge to undo the
early loss, the player relished success in birdying the immediate hole, but could not take advantage of it for long, as he dropped a shot right after.
Surrendering in front of his weak swings, the 2008 BMW International Open winner left the remaining holes at par and sealed the back with a birdie, which helped him bring the score closer to par. Despite his hardest efforts though,
he signed for a score of 1-over-par, 37.
A similar start was seen at the front, but Kaymer soon decided to change the game-plan and birdied four of the last five holes to bring the scores back in the realms of par. He wrapped the day at 2-under-par, 70.
Kaymer’s admiration for this course did not work here and nor did the presence of his family and friends. Before coming to München Eichenried, the 26-year-old said, “I like the golf course and it is a very good tournament, very well
organised. For me it is nice to be home for a week. It's nice to play at home in front of my friends and have the support of the Germans and give a little bit back."
Included in the Top 24 is Dustin Johnson, who like Kaymer, had high hopes from the tournament. The American reeled five birdies against three bogeys in the first 18 holes and wrapped the day with a score of 70, which is a slow start
for a tournament like this.
On the other hand, Bernhard Langer has just teed-off and he is at par after the first two holes. The German who led the Official World Golf Rankings in 1986 has teed-off from the front and is yet to see tough times at the course.
