Martin Kaymer set to utilise home advantage at the BMW International Open – Golf News
Martin Kaymer of Germany is confident to utilise home soil advantage this week at the BMW International Open, when he tees off at Golfclub München Eichenried, on Thursday, June 20, 2013.
Kaymer, who won the event back in 2008 at the same venue, believes that his experience Munich will greatly help him in contending strongly this week at the only BMW sponsored event for the European Tour in Germany.
“The last few years, we have only BMW as a sponsor for The European Tour [in Germany] and obviously for me it's very nice to come home,” Kaymer said. “We don't really have the chance to sleep in your own bed very often.”
“But also, it's a little bit more pressure; the expectations from people, the expectations from yourself. You put a little bit more pressure on yourself, but it's a fine line to find the combination of using the support from the
fans and the spectators, and you will, you put it all together and try to get a good result,” he added.
Last week, the 28-year-old was among the players who failed the challenge of Merion, as he finished tied for the 59th position after posting a 19-over par tournament score.
That is the reason why Kaymer was worried, as the German said that he will have to work really hard in order to return to the routine of recording birdies again.
At the same time, he was able to draw some positive thoughts from the victory of Justin Rose, who was his teammate in the Ryder Cup last year.
Dustin Johnson, who finished two strokes better than Kaymer last week at the US Open, is also relishing the opportunity to participate in the BMW International Open this week.
Johnson started his 2013 campaign on a high note after he secured a victory at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, followed by a tied fourth finish at the Shell Houston Open. However, he failed to keep the momentum going into
the rest of the tournaments because of the back injury he suffered before the start of the Wells Fargo Championship earlier this season.
He now believes to have recovered a lot and plans to return to his winning form when he tees off this week in Munich.
