Martin Kaymer stays diplomatic about Tiger Woods’ future prospects in the sport
Martin Kaymer may not have won an event so far in the season but courtesy to his several strong finishes on the leaderboard, he is still poised at world number seven on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), just one step ahead of the former world number one Tiger Woods.
On a question of whether Woods will ever be able to climb back to his majestic run of world number one again, Kaymer replied with extravagant diplomacy and said, “We will see”.
The 2010 PGA Champion is currently engaged in a stiff challenge on the Asian turf, trying his luck in the Maybank Malaysian Open amid a grizzled field of international players.
Having spent a few weeks on top of the OWGR, Kaymer knows it well of what it takes to climb on top of the world.
Woods went into the Masters in search for his fifth green jacket on his favourite hunting ground, finishing for the lowest place in his career.
He was coming out of his recent victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and was being touted as the most probable winner of the coveted event this year.
Kaymer said, "The way he played in Florida when he won was amazing, fantastic. I think for him it's just a matter of time when he will compete well every week. Obviously he's the best player that ever played the game so it's just a matter of time that he will win plenty of tournaments again".
That just maybe part of the rhetoric from the top-ranked German player, but Woods’ lack of consistency and his deteriorating swing may be a matter of concern for his fans.
Kaymer is playing well on the Maybank Malaysian Open and is hoping to turn his swirling form out of crisis.
His Masters bid last week ended with another sad note. In his five starts at the Masters, this was the first time Kaymer was able to make the halfway cut of the first major event of the season.
He is coming out of a disastrous start of the season in the Middle East, where he missed the cut at his favourite hunting ground, The Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship for the first time in his career. He has won three of the last four events on the turf previously.
