Martin Kaymer struggles while Colin Montgomerie makes par at Alstom Open de France: Live leaderboard
Alstom Open de France has kicked off on the par-71 Le Golf National in Paris, France with a star-studded field. Here is a look at the live leaderboard of the event, carrying a purse of €3,000,000.
Colin Montgomerie teed-off from the back nine to card a birdie against a bogey. The Scottish pro marched towards the front and birdied the opening hole to set the mood for rest of the day. The impressive start turned out to be motivational
for the veteran, who later sandwiched two more birdies between two bogeys.
Montgomerie was joined by world number four Martin Kaymer. The German seems to be out of sorts since the Masters. He failed to understand the course across the Atlantic and played like a rookie in Germany, where he competed in the
BMW International Open. Similar performance is being expected from the player in this tournament.
Kaymer teed-off from the front and as expected failed to impress the crowd with his wayward drives and costly misses. He clamped only two birdies against two bogeys and wrapped the back nine at par.
On his way to the front, the four-time winner of 2010 completed eight holes with seven pars and one bogey. He has one more hole to go and the player will be hoping to make that count and card another birdie.
The possible reason behind Kaymer’s struggling form can be lack of practice for the tournament.
The 26-year-old told the press, "I definitely had a little bit less time to practice and a little less time for family and friends because I had to do a lot of media. I had a lot of different requests that I was not used to having,
but my management and my family and me are trying to organise everything as well as possible. It was fine. It was just a matter of getting used to it and if it were to happen again I would know what to expect and it would definitely be easier for me."
Before coming to France, Kaymer had hopes of lifting the trophy, but with a start so frail, he might not even make the cut into the weekend.
