Martin Kaymer takes a break to watch Champions League final and lauds Messi and Robben
Top golfers from all over the world are now gathering at the Flagship event on the European Tour this week, the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, all set to provide a thrilling showdown of the giants at the scenic Wentworth vicinity.
Number 11th on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), German Martin Kaymer is feeling rejuvenated and fresh after a welcome break ahead of the star-studded event.
The 27-year-old who had to make an early exit at the Volvo World Match Play Championship last week, decided to proceed to watch the Champions League Final in Munich, played between the teams of Bayern Munich lost to Chelsea.
Chelsea won the final match in shootouts.
Kaymer drew similarities between his current form vows and the fall of the Bayern Munich and said that any player or team in the world is prone to these form vows and it takes certain time to come out of the bleak scenario.
He said, “I'm just practising towards a goal, and I think it's pretty normal that you can't play great golf every week. And that's what we talked about earlier, when I went to the Champion's League final, and even the semi final, if you see those great players
failing once in a while, people have to understand in sport that every athlete is human, as well”.
Kaymer had a bad start of the season when he failed to make the cut at the stellar Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship where he had gone over to win three out of the four events in the past four years.
The setback turned out to be colossal for the 2010 PGA Championship winner and has since been struggling with his form.
He added, “You see Messi miss the penalty in the semi-final and Robben miss the penalty in extra time who are world class athletes, even they can fail or miss once in a while”.
The 27-year-old, who surged to stardom with his victory in the major event some two years ago, will have to play his best in order to win the title this week.
Some 14 major winners as well as the top-three on the OWGR will be part of the field this week.
