Martin Kaymer to miss projected cut in the Masters
Martin Kaymer might fail to make the cut in the third round, owing to the performance he gave in the opening round.
The 25-year old German finished tied in the 93rd spot after he compiled a score of 6-over par on Thursday. The world-number one teed off from the front and bogeyed three holes to create a terrible impression.
The early blow was so strong that the German failed to lift his head up the rest of the day. He tried to get rid of the blemishes with the help of a birdie on the eight-hole, but could not create much difference.
He walked to the back with a new game plan, as he revealed later in the interview, but could not execute. He approached the tenth green with a wayward approach and attacked it from the left rough, but could not attain much success, as he missed the par-putt.
Kaymer dropped three more strokes in the day and capped the first round with a 78, which was the last thing one expects from a world number one.
Kaymer left the Augusta National with a long face and when asked, about the game, he said, “It's frustrating if you never play well. So I think that it's normal, it doesn't matter what kind of course that it is. It's just a shame that - it's obviously a
huge tournament here and if it doesn't really suit your eye and you know that quite well, it's a little frustrating, yeah”.
Apart from him, Padraig Harrington, Tom Watson and Vijay Singh are also included in the list of the possible players, who will lose the cut. Harrington, who is a three-time major winner, compiled a 77, owing to four bogeys and two double-bogeys.
Meanwhile, Watson, who has won the Masters twice, hammered a score of 7-over par 79 to occupy the 97th spot on the leader board.
The players who do not fall within ten strokes of the leader will pack their bags and head home to watch the final rounds of the Masters along with their families in front of their television sets.
