Martin Kaymer trail Italian Open leader Richard Bland by four shots
Richard Bland shot a magnificent six-under 66 to lead the BMW Italian Open after round two. This was his second consecutive 66 at Turin, it was a flawless round from the man from Britain. He shot six birdies, which included four birdies in the last five
holes.
Martin Kaymer also matched Bland’s round by shooting 66 but he was four shots adrift of the leader. The German is looking for his first win since the WGC-Champions Tournament, in China, in November.
However, more importantly, Kaymer needs to get back in to his groove for the Ryder Cup, which starts in two weeks’ time.
Martin also had a flawless round and he open the day with three consecutive birdies. These were good signs for the German, as he searches for his first victory since November.
On the other hand, Bland is looking to secure his tour card for the next season with a victory in Turin. Richard is currently 126 on the tour money list and only the top 115 will get the card for the next season.
A victory here would mean that Bland will be seen in the top flight next season.
"I've had a tough couple of years but that's behind me now and I'm just trying to move forward and improve every day," Bland told reporters.
Bland is not overly worried about missing the card for the next season, as there is still time. Plus, he likes to remain calm and composed in tough situations, which is a better option as one can make wrong decisions in haste.
"I don't go for the panic button which I might've done five or six years ago." Bland has had a few tough years but he has never lost faith in himself.
"I've had a tough couple of years, but that's behind me now and I'm just trying to move forward and improve every day," Bland said.
Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts is the other European Ryder Cup player taking part in Turin. He carded a 67, taking his tournament score to 138.
Nicolas is currently six shots adrift of the leader. A good third round would mean that the Belgian would be in contention over the weekend.
