Martin Kaymer will be back to defend his title at the WGC – HSBC Champions in China
The former world number one Martin Kaymer has decided to return to the field of the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions in China, slated to start from November 1, 2012.
Last year, he finished the tournament as a victor. This year, he is confident to take the title home for the second time in a row.
Phil Mickelson, Luke Donald and Lee Westwood are the other three top-notch players, who have committed to participate in the final WGC of the year.
According to Kaymer, a victory in China can change his average season into a great season. Therefore, he plans to give his best when he tees off at the Mission Hills Golf Club.
"I haven't had as good a year as I would have liked and I really want to finish my season on a high note, so winning my second WGC (title) would be a great way to turn my season around," Kaymer said in a statement.
HSBC Champions is the only WGC that is held outside of the United States and the biggest tournament in Asia. Therefore, each and every player dreams of winning the best event of the continent.
Mickelson, in the meantime, has registered two victories in the history of the tournament. Moreover, he is currently enjoying a great form on the PGA Tour. Therefore, he will be among the most watched players in the field this year.
"I love competing around the world, and it's truly exciting in the growing markets of Asia and China because there's a real buzz about golf and the fans are so enthusiastic and appreciative," the American left-hander said.
Despite recording two wins in the tournament, Mickelson believes that does not have any advantage over his competitors, as the event will be held at totally a new venue course.
For the last seven years, the tournament was being held at the Sheshan International Golf Club in Shanghai. However, the event organizers decided to change the venue course to Mission Hills for this year’s edition.
“We are playing on a new course in a new venue, so I won't have the advantage of my past experiences,” Mickelson said.
