Martin Kaymer’s number one world ranking in jeopardy – Golf news
The number one ranked golfer in the world, Martin Kaymer, should be worried because his number one rank could be taken away soon. The probability of Kaymer not being number one after this weekend is high because out of the two tournaments simultaneously
taking place, he is not predicted to get favourable results from either one of them.
Lee Westwood, who is ranked number two, is currently taking part in the Indonesian Masters taking place at the Jakarta Country Club. Even though Westwood didn’t give a striking performance yesterday, Westwood brought his best game in the second round. The
player is tied with Shaaban Hussin and Hyun-bin Park for the lead. With two more holes remaining, Westwood was five under before the play was stopped due to lightning. If Westwood wins the tournament, he will replace Kaymer as world number one.
On the other hand, on another continent, another Englishman is working towards the top rank. Luke Donald is taking part in the Heritage tournament in United States and a victory will make him number one. Currently ranked number three in the world, Donald
had a decent opening round with five birdies and one bogey. With the second round going on right now, Donald is doing really well having made seven birdies and only one bogey after 16 holes. With two more holes remaining, Donald is atop the leaderboard at
ten under par.
So the number one rank is being played for and Kaymer can do nothing about it except hope that neither Donald nor Westwood wins a tournament. Kaymer became the number one player when he reached the finals of the Accenture Match Play Championship. The number
one rank would have been sweeter if Martin Kaymer had won the tournament. Things didn’t really work out for the German player as Donald won the Accenture Match Play Championship.
The 2010 PGA Championship winner Kaymer hasn’t been producing impressive results recently. The player failed to make the cut in the Masters that took place earlier this month. There has been talk however about Luke Donald, who has been a model of consistency
in 2011. The player won the Madrid Masters and has had 12 top 10 finishes after that. Donald even had an amazing fourth place finish at Augusta.
Seeing how talented all these players are, it all leads up to this weekend to see whether Kaymer will remain number one or not.
