Martin Klizan thrashes out Frederik Nielsen in the second round – AON Open 2011 CH
Sixth seed Martin Kilzan continued his impressive run on the clay courts of Genoa Italy as he thrashed out Frederik Nielsen of Denmark 6-2, 6-4 on Thursday to book his place in the quarterfinal of 2011 AON Open Challengers here
in Genoa, Italy. The Slovakian tennis players made most of the opportunities in a match that lasted for only one hour and 32 minutes.
In the opening set, Klizan made a few unforced errors to let his opponent take an early 3-1 lead. However, he raised the level of his game from there onwards and changed the picture of the match completely. Securing six straight
games, he dented his opponent’s confidence levels.
Nielsen fought back well in the following set and he managed to hold on to most of his service games. However, he couldn’t stop his opponent from earning a well deserved straight sets victory.
Klizan made a slow start to the match and he suffered a break of serve in his very first game of the match. Holding on to his first service game, Nielsen took the game score 2-0 lead to put himself in the driving set. Klizan continued
to play aggressively and all of a sudden he started to middle the ball. Breaking the serve three times in the opening set, he raced to an impassable lead. He then had no problems holding on to his following service games as he took the set score lead 1-0.
The second set also followed a pretty similar trend with both player inflicting heavy blows on each other. Nielsen converted the break chances and lead the game score 4-2 with a break of serve. However, Klizan again came back from
behind as he broke his opponent serve regularly to complete his straight sets victory.
Ranked 103rd in the world, Klizan will be hoping to maintain his form and display similar sort of tennis in the upcoming quarterfinal as well. As long as he doesn’t get carried away by this performance, he has great
chance of making it all the way to the final.
