Martin Kohler and Pascale Schnider win 2011 Swiss time trial Road Championships: Cycling News
BMC Racing Team / RSV Pizol team’s won the time trail race of 2011 Swiss Road Championships on Thursday, June 23.
The 25-year-old Swiss road cyclist took a total of 59 minutes and 20 seconds to cover a distance of 41 kilometres course.
After winning the stage, Kohler told the media, "It's kind of a surprise for me, but it's great, it was a great podium today since we're all really good friends. We're the same age and have been riding together since we were juniors and then in the Under
23 ranks and the national team."
Marcel Wyss of Geox - TMC / RSC Aaretal Münsingen was the runner-up with 34 seconds behind Martin. Mathias Frank of BMC Racing Team / VC Pfaffnau was in the third spot with a difference of 41 seconds.
Rubens Bertogliati (Team Type 1 / VC Lugano) was in good form, but he was unable to maintain his pace and grabbed the fourth spot with a difference of 47 seconds. The World Time Trial Champion and Olympic gold medallist, Fabian Cancellara, did not participate
in this race.
The six cyclists, including Ronnie Schildknecht (ewz power team), Reto Gut (VC Pfaffnau -Pneuhaus Frank) and Moreno Angst (EKZ Racing Team), were disqualified from the race.
Stefan Küüng (VC Fischinge/ProTer-Netcycle.ch) won Junior men’s title with a timing of 30 minutes and 29 seconds, ahead of Thery Schir (VC orbe BMC hottinger cycling team).
In the Women category, Pascale Schnider of bike-import.ch / VC Pfaffnau took the 2011 Swiss Road Championship with a timing of 32 minutes and 36 seconds.
Patricia Schwager of Nederland Bloeit was the runner-up with 57 seconds behind Pascale. Caroline Steffen of TBB finished third with a difference of 1 minute and 8 seconds.
Doris Schweizer (EKZ Racing Team / VC Pfaffnau), Nicole Hanselmann (Team bike-import.ch) and Diana Rast Rentsch (RRC Nordwest / Velo + Sport Rast) were in fourth, fifth and sixth places respectively.
The four riders Jutta Stienen, Lise-Marie Henzelin, Jessica Schneeberger and Andrea Wolfer were disqualified from the race.
Linda Indergand took the title of best Junior rider with 34 minutes and 54 seconds, ahead of Larissa Bruhwiler.
The next U23 road race will start in Kirchdorf and all the riders will cover a distance of 158.4 kilometres.
