Martin Kozar casts out Borko Petrovic in Men’s Singles qualification round - Slovak Open Update
Men’s Singles shuttler Martin Kozar relished full benefits of his home ground as he outshined Borko Petrovic and moved forward in the qualification round of the Victor Slovak Open on September 6, 2012.
Though, this opening match remained in full swing just for 25 minutes but still both shuttlers entertained the spectators with a splendid show of badminton skills.
They challenged each other throughout this tussle which ended with concluding figures of 21-17 and 21-19.
Though, the Serbian campaigner put a laudable effort but he had to face an early exit from this tournament after this woeful straight-set defeat.
On the other hand, Martin Kozar performed tremendously well and marched into the second stage of qualification round where he will be meeting Kek Jamnik of Slovenia.
The Slovakian player elevated his chances of victory by clinching the very first match point. He started the beating straight away in the beginning and maintained the upper hand all the way to the final moments.
In the first half of the set, he played cautiously and allowed the opposing shuttler to enjoy a decent lead but he did not take much time to gain control over pace of the rallies.
Martin managed to place a respectable total of 11 at mid-game break and made the best out of this initial advantage in the latter part of the game.
At this stage, Borko Petrovic picked up some pace and narrowed the gap but this short campaign did not make any notable difference and he had to kneel down after reading 17-21 score on the board.
The second set, which turned into a decider later, was filled with lot of sensation as at one stage the Serbian shuttler was in strong position to save his honour but then Martin blew him away with a staggering knock.
Borko mounted pressure with some back-to-back points and doubled the impact by ruling the court in the next couple of rallies.
He widened the gap just before the announcement of break but then a few unforced errors weakened his grip over the game.
The native shuttler did not fritter away this chance and locked the honour by pocketing the ending two points of the 21-19 margin.
