Former Aston Villa defender Martin Laursen has urged the new manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Lambert to strengthen the defence in the upcoming English Premier League season.
Lambert’s current defensive line-up includes Richard Dunne, James Collins, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nathan-Baker-c27374, but with Dunne and Collins in their last year at the club there might be a need to bring in replacements before the end of the summer transfer window.
The senior defensive duo are currently in the last year of their existing contracts at the club and there is a possibility that they could leave next summer, with Collins strongly linked with newly promoted English Premier League side West Ham United.
With Laursen having done incredibly well at Villa Park during his time there, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Denmark-c2884 international expected the same hard work and commitment from the current and upcoming players in defence.  He admitted the Villans could definitely use fresh
faces before the new season kicked off.
Aston Villa were linked with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 McLeish was still in charge but since his departure the club has not inquired after the Brazilian. English Premier League rivals Newcastle United have reportedly agreed to a 5 million
pounds deal with him.
It is believed Lambert is now on the lookout for other options and will try and bring in other defensive options for the new season. Laursen felt the Villans had taken a turn for the worse in their defensive performance over the last few seasons.
Laursen said in an interview:
“It’s strange because Villa were doing really well defensively a couple of seasons ago and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/James-Collins-c17687 were a very strong partnership in the centre when they first came in.
But in the last few seasons they haven’t been doing so well. If you want to improve any team then you have always got to look to bring in new players and better players.”
The former Villans defender revealed he felt a strengthening in their defensive capabilities could take Aston Villa a long way. He continued:
“Central defence is an area where they would perhaps look to bring in some new faces just to keep the competition healthy.”
