I understand I have a famous second cousin called Martin O'Chadhain, who was born in Spiddal, co Galway, but don't know much about him anyone know anything about his life, and works?

  2. Máirtín Ó Cadhain (1906–70) was a republican and renowned Irish language writer of short stories and three novels, of which only one 'Cré na Cille' was published during his  lifetime. Ó Cadhain was interned in the Curragh Internment Camp from 1940-1945 for his involvement in the IRA. In 1949 he became a translator for the Government, translating literary classics into Irish. He spearheaded the creation of a Gaeltacht in Ráth Cairn, County Meath in the east of Ireland. He joined the staff of Trinity College Dublin and was appointed Professor of Modern Irish in 1969. He was created a Fellow of TCD shortly before his death.
