The Sunderland boss has insisted that his side must find the back of the net consistently, while heaping praise on Stephane Sessegnon, who has been performing impressively for the past few weeks.
Sunderland head coach, Martin O’ Neill, has urged his troops to be more incisive in front of the goal, as they have thus far only netted 12 goals in 13 English Premier League games.
The Black Cats had to settle for a goalless stalemate in their last league game against Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 on Tuesday, November 27, despite creating couple of decent goalscoring opportunities.
They also suffered a humiliating 2-4 defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion at home on Saturday, November 24.
And the former Aston Villa boss has insisted that his side’s front-line must pile up more pressure on their opponents to sniff out goals.
“Three times against West Brom, their goalkeeper parried shots and we should have had someone following in there and taking that gamble. Then it’s an easy goal, it’s a tap-in, rather than having a defender booting it clear for a corner kick. You need somebody
in there, a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Owen-esquire player who can feast on those chances”, O’Neil was quoted as saying to choriniclelive.co.uk.
The 60-year-old Irish trainer, who took over the managerial hot seat at Stadium of Light in the summer of 2011, went on to heap praise on Stephane Sessegnon, who has returned to his impressive form after netting a goal in back-to-back games against Fulham
and West Brom.
“At this minute, he’s really important to us. I thought he was really excellent against West Brom. He’s getting a bit of form back and I think the goals help enormously. If you get a goal and a stunning goal like he got (at Fulham), it gives you a big lift”,
O’Neill concluded.
Sunderland are currently occupying the 16th spot on the league table, only a point clear of the safety zone.
The Black Cats will lock horns against Norwich City in their upcoming Premier League fixture on December 2, and O’Neill would be hoping that his side manages to secure a good result on Sunday.
