Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill has revealed the captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 over the weekend.
Cattermole has been sidelined since January with a hamstring injury and missed the chance to lead his side in the last round of the FA Cup. However, manager Martin O’Neill was certain the 23-year-old would be able to return against the Gunners on Saturday.
O’Neill said while speaking to reporters:
“We're hoping that Lee will be added to the list. He has done a little bit of training over the last couple of days.
As we speak we haven't yet gone out this morning, so we'll have a little look.
Lee is playing very well at the moment and would be a great addition for us.”
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 under-21 international began his senior club career with Middlesbrough, making his debut against Newcastle United in 2006. Cattermole went on to become the club’s youngest ever captain in 2007, after which he signed a contract extension
until 2010.
However, in the summer transfer window of 2008, Cattermole signed a three year deal with Wigan Athletic for a fee of 3.5 million pounds. He earned a reputation for being a rash player when he was given his second straight red card during a loss to West Ham
United in the Premier League.
He made 35 appearances in all competitions, scored two goals and earned ten yellow cards in addition to two straight reds. Despite signing a contract extension, Cattermole was targeted by various Premier League clubs in the then upcoming summer transfer
window.
Under Steve Bruce, Sunderland announced they had signed Cattermole for a fee of 6 million pounds on a long term four year contract. He won the man of the match award in his first game for the Black Cats and became a fan favourite shortly after.
It was towards the end of the 2010-2011 season that Cattermole earned the captains armband at Sunderland, retaining it when Martin O’Neill took over as manager. The young skipper has made 63 appearances so far in all competitions and has earned 26 yellow
cards over the span of his Sunderland career, along with three red cards.
