Martin O’Neill excited to take charge of Sunderland, awaits Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 clash
Martin O’Neill, the new Sunderland manager, revealed the upcoming clash against Blackburn Rovers was essential for the struggling Black Cats. The former Aston Villa boss was brought in to replace Steve Bruce after the English manager failed to improve the
club’s standing in the Premier League table.
After a summer of great spending, where Bruce brought in over ten players in the transfer window, he failed to make a good start to the season. While owner and Chairman Ellis Short was patient, he eventually sacked Bruce and brought in O’Neill as a replacement.
Now O’Neill has the task of helping Sunderland return to winning ways. He was initially appointed before the Wolverhampton Wanderers game, which the Black Cats lost, he officially took charge on Monday and will have his first game as the Sunderland boss
on Sunday against the Rovers at the Stadium of Light.
O’Neill said in an interview:
“Obviously we are in a little bit of trouble at the moment. We have been losing games and we could have had a few more points on the board.
Sunday's game (against Blackburn) is very important for us. The players are aware of that and we just need to start winning some matches.”
O’Neill has already had his first training session with the club and revealed he was impressed with the squad and the potential they possessed. The likes of Connor Wickham, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicklas-Bendtner-c27726 are all still underperforming according to O’Neill.
He revealed:
“Among the players there is very good spirit. We had a training session today. I would have expected them to be positive and they were just that.”
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Northern-Ireland-c2972 international had been out of football since resigning from Aston Villa in 2010, and revealed he was eager to return back to managing. While he was excited, he did not talk too much about what he may or may not be allowed to do
in the upcoming January transfer window.
O’Neill continued:
“I am excited about taking the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684, wanting to do something about it, and that's not a discussion at the moment. We will see what develops like everything else, but that was genuinely not discussed.”
