Martin O’Neill, the Sunderland manager, has revealed he intends on remaining patient regarding possible signings for the club in the summer transfer window.
So far the Black Cats have only signed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-c8346 Cuellar in the summer transfer window, but O’Neill is certain there will be further signings for the upcoming season. Sunderland have already reunited for pre-season training and plan on heading to Korea for
the Peace Cup next week.
It is highly unlikely that another player will be brought in while the English Premier League side is on tour, but new arrivals can be expected once they return. The former Aston Villa manager revealed he expected the current situation to change once his
side returned from Korea.
O’Neill confirmed that the Black Cats aimed to strengthen the squad during the summer break, before the new season kicked off. He said he was looking forward to bringing in new faces, which would go on to make the existing squad better.
O’Neill said in an interview:
“When we come back from South Korea, I would expect the situation to change.
We are obviously in the market to try to strengthen our team, of course. I think that's pretty obvious - all football clubs will be trying to do that.
But for us, it would be nice to add a couple of fresh faces - not just for the sake of it, but to improve the quality of the squad, which is what we are trying to do.”
It is expected Sunderland will be focusing on attack specifically, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicklas-Bendtner-c27726 who was on loan with the Black
Cats last season has also returned to the London side.
This leaves Sunderland with little options in attack, leaving O’Neill desperate to bring in more players before the transfer window closes. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Republic-of-Ireland-c2987 international will be hopeful, especially with owner Ellis Short having promised him
new signings in the current transfer window.
There is no doubt that the Black Cats will need new players if they wish to improve their standings on the Premier League table.
