Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill has revealed the 2012-2013 English Premier League fixture list has his side looking forward to the new season.
The Irish manager joined Sunderland in December of 2011 after resigning as the manager of Aston Villa because of differences with the management. O’Neill signed a three year contract with the Black Cats and led the side to an inspirational victory against
Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 in his first match in charge.
O’Neill took over from Steve Bruce, who despite making many signings in the summer transfer window, failed to lead the Black Cats to a decent standing in the Premier League. When the former Aston Villa manager arrived, Sunderland were battling relegation.
However, O’Neill worked his magic and Sunderland managed to secure a 13th place finish, something which was highly unexpected. The upcoming season will be Martin O’Neill’s full season in charge with Sunderland and he can be expected to do much
better this time around.
In addition to preparing the team for the fixtures, O’Neill will be able to strengthen the squad with new signings. He will be able to bring in the sort of players that are required by the club, especially those that are suitable to the needs of the team.
O’Neill admitted the release of the fixture list for the 2012-2013 season had the team pumped up for the upcoming season. He revealed they were all looking forward to when the new season kicked off, even though it was expected to be more challenging than
the last one.
O’Neill said in an interview:
“The confirmation of the fixtures galvanises everyone's thoughts towards the new season and the planning and preparation has already begun in earnest.
Our opening game is certainly a challenging one.
There's a lot of hard work to be done between now and then in order to ensure we are ready for the season ahead, but we are certainly looking forward to seeing what we can achieve.”
