New Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill urged striker Stephane Sessegnon to make an impact for the Black Cats and help them climb up the Premier League table.
It was the 27-year-old who scored the winner against Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 last time and was once again expected to play a big role for his side. He arrived in the summer transfer window of 2010 from Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of £6 million.
Since then he has made 33 appearances in all competitions and has scored six goals in addition to six assists. The club has come to rely on him, especially after the unexpected departure of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Al-Ain-c38290 on a season long loan move.
O’Neill said in an interview:
“When you are searching around for a system to play, Sess doesn't get enough goals. But he was interesting against Blackburn when I thought he caused problems going down the flanks.”
According to the Northern Irish manager the Beninese striker did not get too many opportunities to score too many goals. However, he had done well to prove himself in the clash against Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 with his runs down both the flanks.
O’Neill believed that when Sessegnon was well adjusted the goals would come naturally and the striker would not face further problems of being unable to score. He revealed that for that to happen, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Benin-c2852 international had to make himself available in
the box.
He revealed:
“The lack of chances, and not getting into the area, means he doesn't score a lot so he feels his best work is out of the box.
But it would be great if he was prolific and I believe he is capable of scoring more goals.”
As for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicklas-Bendtner-c27726, the Arsenal striker on a season long loan, O’Neill was confident the young striker would improve as time went by. He believed Bendtner’s belief in himself would be crucial in helping him succeed in the future and make a name for
himself.
O’Neill continued:
“We all know what Nicklas can do. He was up against some real competition at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 although speaking to him, you'd never know.”
