Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill stressed on the importance of winning fixtures at the Stadium of Light in the New Year as compared to 2011.
The Black Cats have not had the most impressive statistics at home, with their recent 1-1 draw against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385, Wigan Athletic and Stoke City in the 2011-2012 season so far.
This means Sunderland have managed just 16 points over the last 12 months, which has seen many changes at the club, including the departure of manager Steve Kean to make room for Martin O’Neill. The new manager has had a better start than his predecessor,
but is far from getting them back on track.
The Northern Irish manager revealed that he had been watching the games closely and his side had been somewhat unlucky in a few of the matches. He admitted the loss of goal scorers had played a huge role in the Black Cat’s downfall this season.
O’Neill said while speaking to reporters:
“There are a couple of games I have watched back, and you can have a bit of misfortune in some matches.
I don't know really what it was like at the back end of last season, particularly when they lost a couple of goal scorers in Bent and Welbeck, so that might have had an effect at the time.”
The goal scorers that he speaks of are none other than http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Al-Ain-c38290 due to differences with previous manager Steve Bruce.
Despite the unavailability of strikers, O’Neill was willing to make do with the existing strikers; Stephane Sessegnon and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicklas-Bendtner-c27726. The manager was certain Sessegnon would score a lot of goals for the Black Cats in the upcoming games.
He revealed:
“He doesn't have to be absolutely prolific - although we would love that - but it would be nice just to have a few more goals coming from him.
For all the good work that he does for us, wouldn't that be a fantastic bonus? I think that would give him a big lift as well.”
