Martin Prado and Dan Uggla spark as Atlanta Braves defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 – MLB Recap
Martin Prado and Dan Uggla both put a combined effort and struck homers in the eighth inning in the Atlanta Braves’ 2-1 win against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park on 4
April.
It was considered as the worst start to the Major League Baseball season for the Brewers, as they were hammered by the Cincinnati Reds in the last series. The Brewers did not exaggerate on their bumpy start, but they are surely disturbed.
Uggla hit his home run against the Brewers’ reliever Takashi Saito. He smacked the fly-ball on the top of the straight wall which was considered as a tie-breaking home run. It was his second homer for the Braves. He had 2 runs for 13 at-bats and was not
satisfied with his first three games of the current regular season.
Uggla expressed his pleasure and said, “I was maybe a little bit overanxious on my first three at-bats. To get the go-ahead home run, that was a pretty cool thing. I knew I hit it good. I knew I hit it low. It's my first week with a new team in the season
and a lot of excitement.”
The Braves were unable to gather much support for starting pitcher Brandon Beachy. He provided four hits and seven strike-outs in six innings, counting Rickie Weeks' home run. It was the third home run off Weeks, who had an outstanding start in this season.
Peter Moylan dug up three outs for the Braves while the closer Craig Kimbrel had strike-outs in the ninth inning.
Beachy fixed his place in the Braves’ rotation from the last three starts in the spring training season.
Speaking to reporters, the Braves’ Manager Fredi Gonzalez said about Beachy that, “He gets in some jams. He doesn't give in. He makes some tough pitches. His stuff got better as the game went on. His command of the breaking ball got better.”
The Brewers’ third baseman Casey McGehee accepted the poor performance of his team but expected to play better in the next games from himself and his team-mates. Chipper Jones and Nate McLouth were struck out by Saito before Uggla’s hit. Ryan Braun made
a single with one out in the eighth inning, but Prince Fielder slammed a double play at the end of inning.
McGehee flied out on first and second base to finish the inning. The Brewers’ starter, Chris Narveson permitted just three runs with three walks. The left-hander Narveson had 5 strike-outs in six impressive innings.
Yuniesky Betancourt made his first hit of the regular season by striking a double and had one run in the fourth inning. He was exchanged from Kansas City Royals in place of Zack Greinke and started his season well.
