Martin Skrtel plans to stay at Liverpool while the Reds target Barcelona midfielder Ibrahim Afellay
Martin Skrtel determined to stay at Anfield
Martin Skrtel, the Liverpool defender, revealed he wanted to stay at Anfield until the end of his contract and denied any interest in Bundesliga side Wolfsburg. The 26-year-old Slovakian has been consistent throughout this season for the Reds; he has made
27 appearances so far and has even managed to find the back of the net once.
Skrtel has successfully managed to cement his place in the first team at Liverpool, maintaining his performance under both Roy Hodgson and Kenny Dalglish. However, he does seem significantly better under Dalglish, putting in a rock solid performance as a
centre-back for the Reds.
Wolfsburg have recently undergone some changes, they sacked manager Steve McClaren and saw star striker Edin Dzeko leave for Manchester City over the January transfer window. They have a significantly weaker squad following his departure and are looking
to strengthen their side at the end of this season.
Skrtel is at the top of their list so far, but the player himself said he had no intention of leaving. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Slovakia-c3007 international arrived at Anfield during the winter transfer window of 2008 from Zenit St Petersburg and insisted he was happy at Premier League
side and had no plans of a move any time soon.
Skrtel said while speaking to reporters, “I have learned about the interest of Wolfsburg only from the internet and don't even know how true this news is. One thing is for sure, though - I have a valid contract with Liverpool, I am happy there and if they
are happy with me, too, I am not going anywhere.”
Skrtel defended manager Kenny Dalglish’s decision to bring him on in the final 6 minutes of the Europa League fixture against Sparta Prague during midweek. The match finished a goalless draw but Skrtel said he was happy with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 manager’s decision.
Skrtel continued, “It was the manager's decision not to have me in the starting line-up and I fully respect it. I didn't try to find out why he had decided that way.”
The defender was hopeful his side would perform better in the second leg of the fixture at Anfield which is scheduled for the 24th of February, Thursday.

Liverpool have set their sights on Ibrahim Afellay, the 24-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 midfielder failed to secure a place in the first team at the Nou Camp after his €2.2 million arrival. He might be more than tempted to make a move to
Anfield if first team football is guaranteed by the Reds. It emerged Liverpool are willing to pay €10 million for the Frenchman, but the decision ultimately lies with Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola.
