Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel quashed the rumours that he is on his way out from Anfield and revealed that he has not been approached by any club as yet.
The 27-year old, one of the most notable performers for the Reds in their toilsome last season, has been strongly linked to a possible move to the Etihad Stadium this summer.
Besides, some speculations and surmises have also surfaced that keeping in view the Merseyside club’s apparent inability to win titles on regular basis, the player might contemplate making a switch to a bigger outfit for a chance of winning more silverware.
Since the Slovakian International joined Liverpool in 2008, he has only been able to lift one title with the Reds, which came via their Carling Cup triumph in February against Cardiff City.
With reports suggesting interest from multiple clubs in Liverpool’s Player of the Season last term, Skrtel dismissed all the talks of his probable move away from Anfield in the summer, divulging that he has not approached by any club as yet.
While talking to reporters, he said: “In the press there have been rumours about my future. I would like to say that so far I have not received any specific offers and I have not been in talks with any club.”
Skrtel joined the Reds in January 2008 from Zenit Saint Petersburg for a 6.5 million pounds transfer fee. Since then, he has made 164 appearances for the Anfield side, netting 7 goals and also picking up 4 assists.
However, the rumour mill went into the overdrive after the defender was named Liverpool’s best player of the season in May. As the Reds struggled miserably to get their Premier League campaign back on track since the turn of the year, Skrtel was without
doubt their star performer, as he spearheaded his side’s defensive front time and again. With the Reds finishing the previous term on a 52 points tally-their lowest in 54 years- the player had earlier expressed his frustration of not being able to win more
trophies with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809.
However, instead of indulging in a discussion of his possible future destination, Skrtel let out his determination of working alongside the newly appointed manager, Brendan Rodgers to change the state of affairs at Anfield.
He remarked, “I'm looking forward to the new season very much and believe we will be well prepared for it and it will be better than the last one.”
The Reds will kick start their 2012/13 Premier League campaign against West Bromwich Albion in an away match on 18th of August.
