Martin Snedden urges rugby fans to get Rugby World Cup 2011 tickets - Rugby News
The chief executive officer of the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU), Martin Snedden, has urged rugby fans to get their Rugby World Cup 2011 tickets as early as possible. Snedden suggested that rugby lovers take advantage of the trouble-free availability of
tickets and book their seat for the thrilling competition. He also cautioned that the laggards could miss the largest event of the rugby year if they delayed the move any further.
The New Zealand Rugby Union is in deep trouble regarding the sales of RWC 2011 tickets. Although they have earned more than NZ $200m in this regard, they still have tens of thousands of tickets waiting for spectators. However, NZRU officials are sure that
they will complete the sale’s targets before the start of the event. Rugby World Cup 2011 is kicking off in just two months in New Zealand.
The NZRU was delighted with rugby fans’ reaction in the last few weeks. Rugby lovers from throughout the world have purchased huge numbers of passes during the past few weeks. With 450,000 tickets left in reserves, Martin Snedden said that these are tickets
are for the final matches which would be sold like hot cakes and spectators should rush in to get their seats early.
He further said that, "We are expecting a strong response from fans when the final ticket phase opens. As we saw in France in 2007 and Australia in 2003, many fans make up their minds much closer to the Tournament so we are optimistic that fans will respond
in the same way."
Snedden also urged All Blacks supporters to cash in on the chance to support their home team. He further said 85,000 foreign visitors are expected to come to New Zealand, which would further enhance tickets sale.
He concluded that, "We're urging fans to quickly take advantage of this sales period and secure the seats they want to witness rugby at its best. There will be tickets available for most matches other than the final. This includes the semi-finals and the
quarter-finals."
New Zealand is expecting to make up the loss caused by earthquake of February 22, as they have to refund Christchurch base match tickets after the extensive damage. NZRU has refunded 130,000 tickets to spectators as AMI stadium in Christchurch was declared
unfit to host the RWC 2011 because of the devastating quake earlier this year.
