Martin Strandberg happy with improvement in standings of 2012 Farr 30 World Championship
Second day of the 2012 Farr 30 World Championship started with tremendous winds just like the first day as perfect forecast welcomed the fleet at the start of the day.
The Bay of Laholm waters in Sweden provided some outstanding winds on the opening day of the regatta and the fleet members took advantage of the conditions to complete three scheduled races.
America’s Deneen Demourkas was able to claim the leading podium position at the end of the first day proceedings and maintained their position on the second day as well.
However, the fleet standing saw some impressive performances and shift in the ranks as a couple of teams proved their class on the second day races.
Sweden’s Martin Strandberg failed to sail up to the mark in the first races and placed himself on the fifth podium spot after three races. Nevertheless, despite a low start the Swedish sailor kept his cool and bounced back brilliantly into the event with
impressive finishes on Day 2.
He grabbed two bullets in the first two races of the day and a sixth finish in the third which brought him on the second podium position in the fleet standings. Strandberg is quite satisfied with his improvement in the event and believes he will do better
in the upcoming races.
Speaking to the local media, Strandberg said, “We got caught on the wrong side, had two terrible starts, hit a guy at the top mark and took a penalty, and things weren’t looking so flash. You just have to sail your own race and play these tough shifts the
best you can; four points is one wind shift.”
