Martin Whitmarsh: 2012 Chinese Grand Prix will be a close fight – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has said that Chinese Grand Prix, which is going to be held at Shanghai International Circuit on April 15, 2012, will be a close fight amongst the contenders in the front as everyone will come prepared.
Whitmarsh also said that they are very confident for the third race after impressive performances of their pair of drivers Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton.
The Working based team is currently leading the championship with 55 points.
Nevertheless, he said that they are well aware of the fact that their rivals are making the best of the efforts and preparations for the next race.
“Make no mistake, however: we're acutely aware that our rivals won't have stood still during the past three weeks,” he said.
Nonetheless, he said that they have been working at their best to make the essential developments and the necessary arrangements to enhance the pace of the car. However, he said that he expects a strong tussle amongst the teams in the front in Chinese GP.
“We've certainly been extremely busy, too, and we don't take anything for granted: if the overall competitive order was a little hard to read in the first two races, I have no doubt that it will start to become clearer next weekend, and I strongly believe
that, once again, it will be closely fought at the front,” said Whitmarsh.
Furthermore, he said that they have a very good track record at Shanghai circuit as they have taken three victories out of the last four races there. In addition, he said that they are earnestly looking forward to perform at their best in China.
“The Chinese Grand Prix is a race in which we've traditionally gone very well - we've won three of the past four races here,” he said.
It will important to mention here that Button has asserted that he is very keen for the third race after his disappointing performance in the second GP.
Moreover, Hamilton has also said that he is focusing on the races ahead to perform with consistency and to score reasonable points throughout the season.
