Martin Whitmarsh: Jenson Button has three-year contract with McLaren-Mercedes – Formula 1 news
Vodafone McLaren-Mercedes team principal Martin Whitmarsh has finally confirmed the exact length of the multi-year contract that they had inked with the 2009 world champion Jenson Button earlier in October 2011.
Whitmarsh has openly stated the terms of the new multi-year deal confirming that the latter will start from 2012 and extend into 2014, which clearly means that the contract will be stretching over a period of three years. This new announcement by Whitmarsh
has put an end to all speculations that have recently been mounting.
When the deal was initially signed the exact terms of the contract were not disclosed, however with Whitmarsh’s recent statement it is clear that the Briton will continue providing services to the Woking-based team until the end of 2014.
The McLaren team could not have asked for more, as they already take immense pride in their two drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Button.
Button, who enjoys tremendous respect at the Woking-based team, is placed amongst the top ranking Formula 1 drivers. Hence, the McLaren team is extremely happy to have Button with them for another three years alongside Hamilton.
Whitmarsh, who has expressed his satisfaction and contentment with the performance of the 31-year-old Briton time and again, told how delighted he was over this new agreement.
He said, “I’d like to claim that, but I think he's just such a cool and focused individual that I think he's doing a great job and I think he fits well with the team and the organisation. Hopefully he'll continue and we'll have another three exciting years
with him.”
The entire Woking-based team is rejoicing over the new deal as they feel that the Briton has tremendous potential that can be utilised for the success of the team.
Whitmarsh further said, “I feel sure that he'll now build on the considerable success he's already achieved with us, and will be even more successful with us in years to come. I think he and Lewis say it better than anyone.”
Button, who is currently at the second position on the drivers’ championship, has performed exceptionally well this season.
Let’s see how the new three-year contract fares for the McLaren-Mercedes team in the future.
