Martin Whitmarsh: Lewis Hamilton not driving in Formula 1 to make friends – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s team principal Martin Whitmarsh has recently stated that Lewis Hamilton is not in Formula 1 to make friends.
Hamilton has been going through a lot of criticism since the past couple of days mainly because of the fact that he had a very disappointing clash with Felipe Massa’s Ferrari at the Singapore Grand Prix but fortunately, both of the drivers were able to continue
the race.
“We are at a point where there are now five races to go. We would like to get out there and attack those races. I don't think Lewis is here to make friends. Go back over the last 20 years - any of these attacking, brave drivers do get under the skin of other
drivers,” he said.
Massa finished in 9th place while Hamilton quite surprisingly made his way up to 5th place before crossing the finish line. The British driver has been in far too many incidents like this since the 2010
Formula 1 season and has been criticized a lot for his aggressive driving style.
“Lewis went through the last race [at Monza] desperately wanting to stay out of trouble, and he did. And, if we are honest, we were all then going to get on his case, saying where is the old Lewis. To an extent, I did. I said to him: 'Great discipline but
let's get back,” added the team principal.
The team has defended him throughout this whole period and he himself also claims that this is just the way he drives and he cannot change his approach or nature.
Because of his aggressive driving, he has been criticised highly and Whitmarsh claims that Hamilton is quite focused about Formula 1 as a result of which he is not much concerned about these developing critiques about his driving style.
