Martin Whitmarsh: Lewis and Jenson can win this year’s championship – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh is feeling confident that his team drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button can win 2012 Formula 1 drivers’ championship.
Hamilton is currently standing on fourth place in the drivers’ rankings with 63 points. He has not been able to win any race in the season so far. However, he has performed quite convincingly as he secured third podium finish in the first three grands prix.
Moreover, he is 4 points ahead of Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and 10 points behind Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing.
On the other hand, Button is presently at 7th place in the drivers’ championship with 45 points. Furthermore, he is 10 points ahead of Romain Grosjean of Lotus and 6 points behind the teammate of the French driver, Kimi Raikkonen. Although, the 2009 world
champion claimed victory in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia but he could only score points in two of the next five races.
Nevertheless, Whitmarsh believes that both their drivers are capable enough of winning the championship title. Meanwhile, he said that it is very hard to make any kind of predictions about the season ahead as there have been six different winners in the
first six grands prix.
“You're never satisfied,” Whitmarsh said. “But I think Lewis is scoring points in every race, he's keeping his head and I think he's doing a very good job. It's still anyone's to play for, so we and Lewis and Jenson can win this year's championship. So after
six races I think that's good for the sport. People now say this sort of randomness is unattractive then that's just a 180 to what people felt a few years ago when it was very predictable.”
Additionally, the Woking based team is one of the most favourite contenders in this year’s championship as they have a perfect blend of expert staff and talented pair of drivers.
Over and above, they are trying their best to make the necessary developments and the significant preparations in order to improve the pace of their car for the forthcoming races.
