Martin Whitmarsh: McLaren have made changes in team for 2012 Spanish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has said that they have made some changes in their team and process for 2012 Spanish Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on May 13.
The Woking-based team has faced problems in the two of the first four races due to poor performance of pit crew. Where on one hand their driver, Lewis Hamilton could only be able to secure 8th place finish even after qualifying for 2nd grid position because
of delayed pit stops in the Bahrain GP. On the other hand, his teammate, Jenson Button lost his chance to overtake Nico Rosberg of Mercedes in the third race in China due to slow stops.
Nevertheless, Whitmarsh expressed that they are set to come up with some changes in their pit staff in the next race.
“We've looked at what we were doing, we have made some changes to the team and to the process and you'll see them on Sunday in Barcelona - or you may see them on the earlier days if you're interested enough to watch pit stop practice in front of the garage!”
Whitmarsh said. “There's enormous pressure on these guys and one of the things I might have said after the last race is that for a top team like McLaren you're targeting sub-three second stops.”
In addition, he admired the way his team responded to the issues which they faced in the last two races. He also said that he felt very much delighted to see the spirit of the team members who were sincerely ready to put themselves in such critical and challenging
positions. Furthermore, he said that they have been carrying out some reasonable practice with their alterations so as to perform well in the race ahead.
It will be important to mention that McLaren team has been one of the most favourite contenders in this season. Additionally, they are presently standing at second place in the constructors’ championship with 92 points and are following the defending champions
Red Bull Racing.
Over and above, they are trying their best to make the substantial advancements and the essential preparations in order to make their position stronger in this year’s championship fight.
