Martin Whitmarsh: McLaren pace and reliability is much better – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh has recently updated the media that the car reliability and pace was much better in the first practice day of the 2011 season.
He also mentioned, even the decision to replace McLaren’s exhaust system for 2011 season races, appears to have paid off.
Whitmarsh was quite happy after their successful practice day and he admitted that much weight has been lifted from his shoulders, as the winter testing really disappoints the team.
He said, “Yes, frankly there is. To come with a car, with a rear end that has never turned a wheel before, there is a degree of risk in that. I don't think I've hidden that fact.”
He went on to say, “But, at the same time, you have analysis and simulation and, if you believe it, we had some confidence from that. But until it happens, you never know.”
He added that, after bad winter testing, the team felt that they are hungry and have more passion to win, but on the other hand, it put a little bit pressure on them.
Team boss highly appreciated their both drivers, car manufacturers, engineers and operational staff and said, no doubt all team members have responded fantastically, over the test sessions.
Recently, Whitmarsh updated the media that he is not satisfied with the new MP4-26 car reliability and performance in winter testing. He also said, but for their first successful race, they want some dramatic changes into the new package.
In addition, those changes will bring more improvements into its run and the other features, included KERS, adjustable rear wing, car exhaust and floor system will provide a significant performance boost, as well.
Whitmarsh admitted that his team still has the capacity to work hard, with the new MP4-26 car, so he expected a more reliable upcoming season.
As McLaren were not able to complete their impressive run, during the testing so, it was not conceded most favourite to win the Australian Grand Prix.
The McLaren boss expected a big ‘surprise’ from McLaren and wants his team on the top, but the season will decide its possible position.
