Martin Whitmarsh: McLaren to investigate issues faced in pit stops at Bahrain GP – Formula 1 news
Martin Whitmarsh, the team principal of McLaren has said that they will investigate the issues which were being faced in 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix held at Sakhir on April 22 because of which their driver, Lewis Hamilton lost some important points.
Hamilton was at second place during the fourth race but eventually fell to eighth position after his pit stops and could only score 4 points at the end of the event.
Whitmarsh expressed that they lost some crucial time between the first and the second pit stops of Hamilton in which they changed the mechanic of rear wheel gun of his car.
Contrary to Hamilton, his teammate and compatriot, Jenson Button didn’t face any difficulties in his pit stops in the race. Nevertheless, Whitmarsh said that they will certainly look into the matter.
“Lewis pulled off some sensational passing manoeuvres in his efforts to push his way through to the front, but in the end he was let down by two slow pit stops, both of which were caused by delays at the left-rear corner of his car. Jenson's pit stops were
trouble-free, by contrast, so we'll have to investigate what the problem was with the left-rear corner of Lewis's car,” said Whitmarsh.
McLaren are at second place in the constructors’ standing in the season so far. Furthermore, they have been deemed as one of the most favourite teams for the championship title this year.
Besides, Hamilton is currently at second place in the drivers’ championship and has shown quite consistent performances during the first three races of the season as he secured third podium in each one of them.
On the other hand, Button took an amazing victory in the season opener in Australia while secured second podium finish in the third race in China. However, he could not be able to score even a single point in the second race at Sepang where he finished at
14th and the fourth race at Sakhir in which he came 18th. Nonetheless, the 2009 world champion is at fourth position in the drivers’ standing until now with 43 points and following Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber.
