Martin Whitmarsh: The battle is still going on for both titles
McLaren team Principal Martin Whitmarsh is convinced that the team is still up and close for the Drivers’ as well as the Constructors’ championship.
With only two more races to go and 50 points to play for, the team principal as well as both the team drivers is insistent that their title chances are still not over. While talking to the media earlier today, Whitmarsh proclaimed
that many surprising and unexpected things have been witnessed on and off the track all through the season. Now, as the season reaches its final twists and turns he believes that still the series of surprises is not over and all must stay prepared to hail
more unexpected things in the last two rounds in Brazil and Abu Dhabi.
While talking to the media earlier today Whitmarsh said, "If Formula One has taught us competitors one thing over the past couple of years, it's to never give up hope until the odds are no longer possible, and that the most unexpected
outcome can become a very real and viable possibility sooner than you can readily imagine.”
He says that, though apparently their chances for the constructors’ title seem lesser than the Red Bull Racing, yet keeping in mind, the way the 2010 season has evolved one must not forget that anything can happen now. Presently,
the British team stands at 2nd place with their 399 points while Red Bull leads the charts with their 426 points.
However, the encouraging thing for the team is the 2nd place finish by its driver Lewis Hamilton who has been elevated to 3rd place now from initial 4th. On the other hand, after a pointless finish
in the last race Jenson Button still stands at 5th place. Moreover, his initial difference of 31 points from the charts’ leader, Fernando Alonso, has now extended to 42. Yet, the team manager and Button believe that the battle is still not over
for him and still he has a lot to play for.
He further expressed his aspirations saying, "With that in mind, we go to Brazil, and then on to Abu Dhabi, still determined to wrest both world championships. Lewis is well-placed in the drivers' championship. While Jenson lies
42 points adrift, he has vowed to fight on. As the reigning world champion, and a great driver, he knows better than most that you can't lift the title without being a resolute fighter. That's exactly why we hired him, and we'll be supporting him fully this
weekend.”
