Martin Whitmarsh advises Lewis Hamilton not to get bogged down by on-track accidents – Formula 1
McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh has advised Lewis Hamilton to look beyond the on-track accidents that take place and adopt a more positive approach rather than apologising for the accident that happens.
Whitmarsh stated this after the inaugural 2011 Indian Grand Prix which took place this Sunday, October 30, 2011 at the Buddh International Circuit.
Hamilton, who has been the source of criticism from stewards from the beginning of this season on account of his aggressive and reckless driving, found himself in another accident with Felipe Massa of Ferrari at the Sunday’s race at the Buddh International
Circuit.
This is the sixth time that the Briton has been involved in a collision this season, and that too with Massa who is already not on very good terms with Hamilton.
Whitmarsh reminded Hamilton of the hype that was created related to his collision with Massa at the 2011 Korean Grand Prix and how the situation quickly changed in a matter of few days.
He showed complete confidence in Hamilton’s abilities as a skilled driver which were clearly seen in the last race. Whitmarsh also pointed out the strong form that the 26-year-old displayed ahead of the 2011 Indian GP.
Whitmarsh said, “I don't think he has to, and I've told him that on several occasions; don't apologise, you're a racing driver. Go out, if you've made a mistake accept it, learn from it, move on. He's very analytical; he's very serious about trying to do
the best job he can and I think he is much too hard on himself.”
Whitmarsh feels Hamilton stresses too much over his mistakes and takes them probably too seriously. He said he should instead learn a lesson from the mistakes he makes and try not to repeat them. Being a Formula 1 driver is not easy as one faces many challenges
and pressures, hence they are bound to make mistakes.
Let’s see how Hamilton fares in the upcoming Abu Dhabi Grand Prix taking place two weeks from now.
