Martin Whitmarsh advises McLaren to stay positive – Formula 1 News
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh, has insisted that they must stay positive, despite losing some crucial points in the championship battle due to the huge reliability issues they have faced in the 2013
Formula 1 season until now.
The British squad had quite a disappointing weekend in Montreal, as both of their drivers, Jenson Button and Sergio Perez, could not score even a single point and failed to come up to the expectations of their
fans. However, Whitmarsh has said that they need to remain confident during the tough time.
“You have to be an optimist in this business, particularly in these moments, and I've been through various ones before,” Whitmarsh said.
In addition, he said that they earnestly need to keep everyone motivated in their team and focussed to make the necessary developments to overcome their problems for attaining good results in the approaching
races. Besides, he stated that they are optimistically looking forward to perform well in their home race at Silverstone and are hoping to make their fans happy.
“We have to keep people motivated and focused. We have to believe we can work hard and win a race. We haven't given up yet. Obviously we want a much better showing at Silverstone,” he said. “It's important; we
want to do that for the fans.”
He also cited that they are trying their best to resolve the reliability issues which they faced in the Canadian GP so that they can compete well with their rivals in the British GP.
“So we'll be working hard in the couple of weeks we have now to see what we can do and pull out for the British Grand Prix,” he added.
Additionally, he said that they have full confidence in the skills and abilities of their drivers and they are aiming to provide them everything which they may need to improve their performance in the season
ahead.
Currently, the Woking based squad are standing at 6th place in the constructors’ championship with 37 points. Furthermore, they are ahead of Toro Rosso and behind their main rival, Force
India. Let’s see how they show up in the forthcoming race.
