Martin Whitmarsh believes Fernando Alonso is under pressure from Sebastian Vettel – Formula 1 news
Martin Whitmarsh of McLaren believes that the championship leader Fernando Alonso will be facing more pressure from Sebastian Vettel, of Red Bull Racing, than from them.
The incident at the Japanese Grand Prix has reduced the gap between the championship leader and runner up to 4 points only.
He believes that Alonso will be more troubled with the impressive performance of the Red Bull driver rather than McLaren drivers. Although McLaren drivers have been able to reduce the gap with the championship leader still the big danger is Vettel.
He said, “I guess Fernando will be going home more unhappy than most I imagine, so he's under some real pressure; more pressure frankly from Sebastian than from us, but I think nonetheless we have closed that gap and we've got five races to go.”
He added that he does not rate their performance at the Japanese circuit as best therefore they have to understand the problematic area and cater to it, in order to win more races in the current 2012 season. He believes that the McLaren drivers are capable
enough to win more races.
“This is not the most sterling performance from us this weekend and in those situations you've got to go back, look what you're doing on the car and make sure that we get it as good as we can in Korea,” he added.
Furthermore, he believes that in the current situation Ferrari is facing a threat from both Red Bull and McLaren. He added that the red team may improve their performance by introducing some upgrades.
Fernando Alonso has been very unlucky in the latter half of the current season as his huge championship lead has dropped to 4 points only. He has retired from two races due to the careless driving of Romain Grosjean of Lotus which has resulted in decreasing
his lead by as much as 25 points.
Let’s see how the driver in red performs in the upcoming Korean Grand Prix as it would be a crucial race for the championship leader. If Vettel manages to finish the race before Alonso, Alonso will no longer remain the championship leader.
