Martin Whitmarsh believes Lewis Hamilton deserved victory in 2012 Abu Dhabi GP – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh believes that their driver, Lewis Hamilton deserved victory in the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix but insists that the recent reliability issues have nothing to do with the overall system of the team.
Hamilton performed inspiringly well in the qualifying at Yas Marina Circuit and secured the pole position for the race. Even though, he had a brilliant start but unfortunately he was retired because of the fuel pressure failure on 20th lap.
It will be important to note that the British driver has faced reliability issues in his car in quite a few races in the season until now due to which he has lost some crucial points in the championship battle.
However, Whitmarsh thinks that the recent problems are not the result of any widespread issue in the team and has defended their engine provider, Mercedes.
Furthermore, he said that the 27-year-old had the pace to score win in Abu Dhabi but the fuel pump problem gave him away.
“I think Lewis deserved to win this race. He came here, did a great job, was on it from the get go and we were all pretty confident that should have been a relatively easy and straightforward win. Clearly he had the pace, he was looking after his tyres from
the start and that's why it's frustrating,” he said.
In addition, he said that they are looking forward to keep on making the essential advancement in their car so as to attain competitive results in the last two rounds of the current season.
He also said that the competition is extremely tough and they earnestly need to take the most out of their updates in the remainder of the season.
“We've had a quick car but you can always make it quicker. That's the name of the game. You've got to get the points the car is capable of getting and we haven't always managed to do that this year,” he added.
Let’s see how the 2008 world champion and his teammate, Jenson Button perform in the remaining two grands prix of the season.
