Martin Whitmarsh believes Lewis Hamilton will bounce back in European Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh has said that he believes the team driver Lewis Hamilton will bounce back in the European Grand Prix after his disappointing run in Monaco and Canada.
Whitmarsh added that Hamilton could not finish the previous Montreal race due to an accident, but he is sure the Brit will surprise his viewers in the upcoming Valencia race weekend.
The team boss went on to mention, “He is a racing driver, he doesn't need much chat from me. I saw him a couple of nights ago and he's in good shape. I know he didn't like not winning, he didn't particularly enjoy the last two race weekends and I'm sure
he will be looking to forward to this one.”
Apart from that, Whitmarsh told media that Hamilton is happy at McLaren and that he does not want to talk about his future team at the moment.
Recently, there were rumours that Red Bull were eyeing to replace Mark Webber with Hamilton in future. However, the rumours did not materialise into anything official from either side after that.
After Canadian race weekend, the 26-year-old driver said that he is not looking to switch his team at the moment and that he wants to have a very close fight with their competitors in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Whitmarsh added, “I think they enjoy being in this team, they both want to win and you've seen them racing each other, and had the cars to prove that. We will talk about the future with them when the time comes but at the moment, we're not planning on a
different driver line-up.”
He praised the performance of both McLaren drivers, Hamilton and Jenson Button and admitted that McLaren are happy with their current drivers’ line-up.
Button made very impressive progress in the Canadian Grand Prix, as he won his first race of the ongoing 2011 season in Montreal.
After a disappointing performance by Hamilton in Canada, the team is expecting a successful race weekend from him in Valencia.
