Martin Whitmarsh claims Hamilton’s visit to Red Bull Racing camp was a misjudgement – Formula 1
Team principal of McLaren Martin Whitmarsh has said Lewis Hamilton’s visit to Red Bull Racing’s motor room was taken in the wrong context by many.
Whitmarsh said that since the Red Bull team principal Christian Horner and Hamilton himself have cleared the situation, the 2008 Formula 1 champion should now move on.
“It was a misjudgement by Lewis because it gave ammunition. I feel sorry for Lewis because I know he is a little bit more sensitive than me on these subjects. I went to see Christian (Horner too) and I don't think I am going to join Red Bull next year!”
said Whitmarsh.
There were rumours that since the ‘activity’ between Horner and Hamilton has increased a lot since the past couple of weeks, Red Bull might replace Mark Webber with the 2008 Formula 1 champion in order to strengthen their drivers’ line-up even more.
Nevertheless, the Red Bull team principal recently stated that he does not want to manage two world champions at the same time as those sorts of relations are quite difficult to handle. He added that Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel might not get along well
professionally.
There are a lot of examples where two world champions have driven alongside each other in the same team. Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost’s team is the most ‘highlighted’ example in history since they did not get along very well and literally fought with each
other both on and off the track.
However, these sorts of teams do create history as these two drivers dominated the sport for three years together for McLaren and that era of Formula 1 is considered as one of the most entertaining eras of the sport.
On the other hand, Horner stated that he is willing to keep Mark Webber for another season with the team and that the deal was pretty much on its way.
It is believed that the team will make a major announcement regarding this matter in the next couple of weeks and it is going to be interesting to see how Webber or Vettel handle this situation as well.
