Martin Whitmarsh condemns team orders once again
Like several times earlier this season the McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh has announced once again that no ‘team-orders’ would be followed in his team.
As the Formula One caravan now heads for the 18th and the second last race of the season, Whitmarsh has proclaimed that both the drivers are free to battle at the Brazilian arena this weekend.
As the team returned from the last round in Korea, many of the race analysts as well as the reporters thought that the team would now ask Jenson Button to support his teammate for the next race. The debut Korean Grand Prix, last month saw Button pack up
at 12th place without being able to earn any points at all. Owing to the poor finish he slipped 42 points off the charts topper, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who has 231 points under his belt.
On the other hand, the second place finish by Lewis Hamilton elevated him to 3rd place in the charts. The chances of winning for the 2008 world Champion, Hamilton are now far better than his teammate. However, as per the recent statement of Whitmarsh
the team would not ask Button to give up his battle and the next race would be started by both the drivers with the same strategy.
While talking to the media a little while back the team principal said, "I think we all know there are no team orders in the sport so I think the right thing for a racing driver is to go there and win."
He continued saying, "I'd be disappointed if Jenson isn't going there trying to win. I think the championship for Jenson in particular is tough but if he was telling me he had given up then I would be deeply disappointed. So I think the right thing is if
he is getting his car in front of all of our competitors then that's absolutely the right target. We'll see what happens during the course of the weekend.”
Moreover, he was glad to state that both the team drivers have a healthy relationship between them and he was sure that they both are going to co-operate with each other.
The British team principal believes that Button is ‘a remarkably composed, mature, thinking driver’ and he has firm belief in his fighting spirit. He concluded saying that he wants the best for both the team drivers and he would be happy if he sees Button
defending the championship.
