Martin Whitmarsh confident he will keep his job at McLaren – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s current team principal Martin Whitmarsh amidst recent critique regarding his team’s downfall in performance has claimed that his job at the team is not under any sort of threat.
He said the officials of the team along with former team principal, the legendary Ron Dennis, are happy with how he is working with the team.
“I am confident that I will stay in my job. I answer to the board, not just Ron, and they seem happy with the job I'm doing, for now, anyway,” he said.
Firstly, McLaren have not been able to give consistent performances since the 2008 Formula 1 season and the team has lost its reliability since the arrival of Martin Whitmarsh as the team principal.
The team has not been able to cope up with Red Bull Racing in terms of pace since the beginning of the season and their two victories in the ongoing 2011 season were due to the drivers’ heroics rather than the team performance.
Either way, the 2010 Formula 1 season was pretty good for the team but unfortunately due to some problems towards the end of the season, the team was unable to keep its momentum and take the titles.
Whitmarsh is not the only one to be blamed regarding this matter but the team really needs to do something to improve its performance as soon as possible.
Other than that, Martin claims that his relationship with Ron Dennis, who has been showing up every now and then at race weekends, was pretty strong but there are some ups and downs as well.
“We have ups and downs but I think our relationship is strong at the moment. I am firm about where I draw the line in terms of what my responsibilities are and what his are with regard to the Formula 1 team,” said the current team principal.
Even at the recently held British Grand Prix, the team’s performance was not up to the mark as it failed to properly change Jenson Button’s right front tyre and he had to retire from the race as a result.
In addition, Lewis Hamilton also faced a fuel shortage issue towards the end of the race which result in him losing a grid position to Red Bull’s Mark Webber.
