Martin Whitmarsh feels confident that Lewis Hamilton will stay in 2013 – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh is feeling confident that their driver, Lewis Hamilton will stay in the team in the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Hamilton’s contract with the Woking based team will end at the conclusion of the current season. Meanwhile, the reports have been stating that he may leave his team after this year.
However, Whitmarsh has said that they are not worried about the ongoing conversations with the 2008 world champion and are positive that he will remain in the team for the next season.
“I honestly don't think it is an issue,” he told Autosport. “You get a few questions over a weekend about it, and it is clearly fascinating to some people, but I really don't think it is an issue. Lewis and I have spoken two or three times at length. I think
we are closer than we have ever been, and our conversations have been about how we are going to beat other teams, and how we are going to try and win races. We don't talk about these issues at race tracks because I don't think it is the right environment.”
In addition, he said that he is very much frank with Hamilton and expects him to stay in the team for the next year. He also said that the Briton has shown desire to continue with the British team in the next season.
It will be important to mention that the British driver has expressed that he will decide about his future during the summer break and will hopefully come up with some solid plan about the next season afterwards.
Furthermore, he has been one of the most competent contenders in this year’s championship and is standing at fourth place in the drivers’ rankings with 117 points. Additionally, he is just a point ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus and is behind the defending
champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Over and above, he has scored two race victories in the season so far and is hoping to come up even stronger in the remaining nine races after the mid-season break.
